Bus driver causes fatal accident, gets 1 year suspended sentence
(Baonghean.vn) - Driving a bus but not controlling the speed, causing an accident that resulted in the victim's death, Cuong was sentenced by the People's Court to 12 months of suspended imprisonment.
On the morning of November 24, Tan Ky District People's Court opened the first instance trial of the criminal case against Pham Duc Cuong (born in 1980, residing in Trung Dong block, Hung Dung ward, Vinh city) for the crime of "Violating regulations on controlling road vehicles".

According to the indictment, at around 10:00 a.m. on July 12, 2017, Pham Duc Cuong drove a bus (with a driver's license as prescribed) carrying passengers on the Tan Ky - Vinh route. When the bus reached Tan Phu hamlet, Tan Phu commune, due to not being able to control the speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front, the bus collided with a bicycle driven by Mr. Vo Van Khuyen (born in 1937, residing in Tan Phu hamlet, Tan Phu commune, Tan Ky).
As a result, Mr. Khuyen was seriously injured and had to go to the emergency room. On July 14, Mr. Khuyen died.
After the incident, Cuong and the owner of the car supported Mr. Khuyen’s family with funeral expenses and compensation for mental damage. The victim’s representative also filed a petition to reduce the defendant’s criminal liability.
At the trial, Pham Duc Cuong admitted all the acts as stated in the indictment. The panel sentenced Pham Duc Cuong to 12 months in prison, suspended the sentence, and banned him from driving for 2 years./.
