Drivers can be heavily fined for being lazy to wash their cars.
In the UK, if a car is too dirty on the road, the driver can be fined up to 5,000 pounds (about 130 million VND) or even go to jail.
The Road Traffic Act in the UK was introduced in 1986 and is still in effect today, and contains many provisions that are quite unfamiliar to many drivers. For example, there is the provision "Vehicle parts such as windshields and windows must be kept clean and free of obstructions to the view.". The penalty for violating this regulation is also very high.
It's no coincidence that British law imposes heavy penalties on drivers who don't wash their cars, explains Dominic Smith, director at Patterson Law.
"If the vehicle is so dirty that the registration, number plates, signal lights, etc. cannot be read, it could be an offense and a fine will be imposed. Depending on the severity, the driver will be fined between £1,000 and £5,000 and have 3-9 points deducted from the driver's license," said Mr. Dominic Smith.

Specifically, if the windshield is dirty, the driver will be fined 1,000 pounds (about 25.7 million VND). The penalty is similar when the driver has a dirty or obscured license plate, making it difficult to read. If the entire car, including the front and rear windows, windows, license plates and signal lights, etc., is too dirty, the driver can be fined up to 5,000 pounds (nearly 130 million VND).
In addition to the fine, the police also deduct 3-9 points from the driver's license and if all the points are deducted, the driver will be banned from driving. In the UK, if a driver has 12 points deducted within 3 years, he or she will be banned from driving. As for new drivers, within the first 2 years of getting a license, if they have just 6 penalty points, the driver's license can be revoked.
It is worth mentioning that if an accident occurs due to a dirty windshield (both objectively and subjectively), the driver can be charged with carelessness, lack of observation and can go to jail for that.
According to The Sun, leaving the car too dirty, especially the windshield and license plate, not only affects visibility but also limits vehicle control through cameras. In addition, cars that are too dirty will be refused to enter some "green zones" in the UK due to environmental regulations in this country.
