On May 25, the Lao Cai Provincial Border Guard announced that the Lao Cai International Border Gate Border Guard Station had successfully broken up a human trafficking ring to China and urgently arrested Chau A Do (21 years old, Mong ethnic group, residing in Lao Chai commune, Sa Pa district).

Previously, in January 2017, Mr. Ly A Son (Mong ethnic group, residing in Sa Pa district) went to the border guard station to report that his sister, Ly Thi M. (23 years old), had been tricked and sold to China.

Lao Cai International Border Gate Border Guard Station coordinated with the Department of Crime and Drug Prevention of the Border Guard, the Border Guard of Quang Ninh province and Chinese authorities to verify.

On April 4, the Chinese side found and returned Ly Thi M. to the Vietnamese side through Mong Cai border gate (Quang Ninh province).

Based on the victim's testimony and photos, and the collected documentary evidence, Lao Cai Border Guards urgently arrested Chau A Do. During the investigation, Do confessed that he had tricked Ly Thi M. into selling her to China.

According to Do, after being released from prison in April 2016, Do often crossed the border to China to visit and became acquainted with some Chinese people. This group of people discussed with Do about going back to Vietnam to find women to sell, and splitting the proceeds in half.

In December 2016, Do met Ly Thi M. through Zalo, then the two made an appointment to meet for the first time in Sa Pa town. After a while of getting to know each other, Do invited M. to go to Lao Cai city to play. Do also invited a boyfriend in the village to go with her to make M. feel secure.

In Lao Cai city, Do took M. out to eat and drink and then invited M. to cross the border to China. Once there, Do handed M. over to the Chinese people and was given 2,000 yuan.

This amount of money was converted to Vietnamese currency, 6 million VND, divided 2 million VND with the friend who went with him, the rest was used to buy clothes and spend.
