(Baonghean.vn) - During picnics in mountainous areas, parking on slopes is a common occurrence, whether it is to stop for sightseeing, to rest or to camp overnight. Even when driving in the city, sometimes you have to stop and park halfway up a slope (in an apartment building basement, on a dike slope, etc.). So how to park a car on a slope safely?

1. Park uphill, where there is a sidewalk

With this way of parking a car, you need to ensure that the distance between the car and the curb is about 20 - 30 cm. Turn the steering wheel to the left and then slowly, slowly back the car so that the front right wheel can be inserted into the curb without having to turn the steering wheel straight.

Note, do not turn the steering wheel all the way if you do not want to damage the car as well as cause obstacles for other vehicles participating in traffic. Finally, pull the handbrake, turn off the engine and put it in P for automatic transmission or 1 for manual transmission.

2. Parking uphill, no sidewalk

In this situation, the way to park safely is to instead of turning the steering wheel to the left, you need to turn the steering wheel all the way to the right when you have brought the car to a stop parallel to the edge of the road. In case the car rolls downhill, it will only turn inward and stop, not "rolling downhill without braking" which is potentially dangerous for other vehicles and people on the road.

3. Parking downhill

When parking downhill, with or without a curb, the safest way to park is to turn the wheel all the way to the right; you can also put the wheels on a curb or park the car away from the road.

With manual transmission cars, you should shift into reverse and use the handbrake instead of using 1st gear as in the above cases.

4. Parking on hilly roads

The principle of parking on hilly roads is to absolutely not park on corners whether you are going up or downhill, do not park on narrow roads, in areas with limited visibility, etc. Always try to park off the road if possible; you can use a warning sign about 100m away from the car to warn other cars.
