How to avoid rashes when swimming in the sea?
Jellyfish, polluted sea water, hot sun and environmental impacts are the causes of itchy skin rashes when swimming in the sea.
In recent days, many residents and tourists have experienced itching and red rashes on their skin while swimming in Da Nang. Mr. Le Quang Nam, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang City, confirmed that it was caused by fire jellyfish.
According to Dr. Dang Hoang Thiem, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, hot weather creates conditions for jellyfish to drift close to shore. Jellyfish have venom that causes people to get itchy rashes when they touch them while bathing.
Dr. Thiem said that there are many other causes of rashes when swimming in the sea. For example, polluted seawater contains many types of larvae and parasites, along with the effects of sunlight, which cause skin allergies and itching.
Doctor Hoang Hong Van, Viet Duc Hospital advises that if you feel a burning sensation while swimming in the sea, you may have been stung by a jellyfish. Therefore, you should immediately go to shore and cover yourself with sand to limit the jellyfish's venom.
To protect your health when swimming, you should:
- Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going to the beach to avoid the effects of ultraviolet rays on the skin.
- Swim in the sea for about 30 minutes to an hour and from 3pm onwards when the sun is less harsh.
- When you get home, you need to shower to avoid damage from sea water to your skin and hair.
- If you want to know if you are allergic to sea water, soak your feet in the sea for a while and observe. If your face turns pale, your whole body feels tired, your skin has red rashes... it proves that you are allergic to sea water and should not swim in the sea.
