Born into a family of seven siblings in Muong Long village (Tri Le - Que Phong), Khu faced particularly difficult circumstances. With a large, impoverished family, Khu lived with his uncle, who was also poor, making his education challenging and lacking in resources. Understanding his situation, Khu avoided idleness and instead strived for academic excellence, actively participating in school activities. Throughout his four years at Chau Thon Ethnic Boarding Junior High School, Khu consistently achieved the title of all-around excellent student, receiving commendations and awards from the school.

In the early days at the boarding school, Khư was very worried about the unfamiliar teachers and classmates. She studied diligently, and outside of class, she would study on her own in the dormitory, asking teachers and friends for help whenever she didn't understand something. Khư always strictly followed the school's regulations. The dormitory where Khư lived was neatly and tidily arranged. Khư always helped her friends with their studies. During holidays, Khư's friends were picked up by their parents, but Khư had no one to take her home... Each school year, Khư only visited home once during Tet (Lunar New Year). During holidays, she made the most of her time studying, hoping to grow up and establish a career to escape poverty. Seeing Khư's diligence and academic excellence, her fellow Hmong students in the border commune of Tri Lễ encouraged each other to follow her example.
For four consecutive years, from 6th to 9th grade, Khu's overall grades were consistently above 8.5. Notably, in the 2012-2013 school year, she participated in the district-level student excellence competition in three subjects and achieved high scores in all three. Diligent and academically excellent, she was also an active and enthusiastic student leader in the Youth Union and Children's Union activities, earning the respect and affection of her teachers and classmates.
