For the first time, the Khơ Mú ethnic group learns how to produce goods for export.

(Baonghean.vn) -A vocational training course in rattan and bamboo weaving was organized by the Tuong Duong District Vocational Training Center in collaboration with a business operating in the field of exporting handicraft products in Xop Pu village (Yen Na - Tuong Duong). The class has 35 students and is also the first time a vocational training course for the Khmu community has been organized in Yen Na commune.

The bamboo and rattan weaving class that just started in Yen Na - Tuong Duong has 35 students participating.

The course commenced on the afternoon of August 24th and is expected to last 60 days, comprising 191 hours of instruction, including 156 hours of practical training. During this time, students will be taught how to craft handcrafted woven products for export, tailored to the tastes of foreign markets.

The funding for organizing the training course is drawn from the government's vocational training program for rural workers.

The class focuses primarily on guiding farmers in practical product use, with less emphasis on theory.

Yen Na is a region with abundant raw materials for weaving, such as bamboo, rattan, and other similar materials, creating favorable conditions for the development of the weaving craft. The Khmu people are skilled weavers, but for a long time, they have only been accustomed to making traditional products for the daily lives of people in the highlands.

Representatives of the businesses involved in the vocational training program promised to purchase all the products from the Khơ mú people in Yên Na.

The training course hopes to change people's perceptions of traditional crafts, thereby helping local products rise to marketable status. The business providing the training also promises to purchase the products of the participants.

This is the first time the Khmu people in Yen Na have learned weaving. Previously, they mainly learned by observing each other and following traditional methods.

According to a representative from the Tuong Duong District Vocational Training Center, there is currently a great demand for vocational training among rural laborers in the highlands. Based on registrations from local people, 19 vocational training classes could be opened in 2016, but funding only allows for a limited number of classes.

Besides the bamboo weaving class in Yen Na, the Tuong Duong Vocational Training Center recently opened a class on cage fish farming techniques in Tam Quang commune.
