First successful emergency surgery for eclampsia in the mountainous district of Que Phong
(Baonghean.vn) - Doctors at Que Phong District Medical Center successfully performed emergency surgery for both mother and child for the first time in a case of eclampsia when the mother had convulsions all over her body and turned purple.
The mother has now recovered and the baby was born healthy, weighing 1.9 kg. Previously, these cases often had to be transferred to a higher level or could only save the mother or the baby.
Accordingly, at 9:30 a.m. on June 3, 2017, pregnant woman Luong Thi Huong, 28 years old, in Na Chang village, Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district, was taken to Que Phong district medical center by her family in a state of convulsions, cyanosis, and foaming at the mouth.

At that time, the doctors and surgical team had just finished performing a surgery on another pregnant woman and immediately gathered in the emergency room to resuscitate the patient. They quickly consulted and diagnosed this as a case of eclampsia. If emergency surgery was not performed quickly, the risk of death for the mother and child was very high.
After 1 hour of concentrating human resources, medicine and intense efforts, at 11am the surgery was successful, the danger was over, the lives of the mother and the baby were safe. It is known that this 28-year-old mother was giving birth for the first time.

Doctor Lo Minh Chau, Head of the Obstetrics Department and also the doctor who directly participated in the surgery, said: "Up until now, cases like this, if they come early, are immediately transferred to a higher level, only cases that come too late have to be tried to save, but often only the mother is saved, leaving the child or vice versa, in many cases both mother and child die.

This is the first case of eclampsia that came very late but was successful beyond expectations. We feel relieved and extremely happy, relieving the psychology of all doctors, nurses and medical staff at the lower level in remote mountainous areas like Que Phong."
Eclampsia is a condition that causes seizures or coma in pregnant women. It is a serious complication of preeclampsia, a condition that can cause high blood pressure and other symptoms in pregnant women. Eclampsia is rare but very serious. Preeclampsia and eclampsia affect the placenta, the organ that supplies oxygen, blood, and nutrients to the fetus. When blood pressure increases, blood flow is reduced, affecting the function of the placenta. This can result in a baby being born with a lower birth weight or other health problems. Pregnant women with placental problems are often forced to give birth prematurely to ensure the health and safety of the baby. In some cases, the condition can lead to stillbirth. |
