According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development June 29, 2018 10:22

The first shipment of Vietnamese pork has been officially exported abroad.

Overcoming many barriers in trade and veterinary quarantine with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, for the first time, fresh pork from Vietnam was officially exported to the Myanmar market with the frozen processing method.

According to the cooperation contract signed between the partners, each month, 1 container of 40 feeds, equivalent to 26 tons of fresh frozen pork, will be exported to the Myanmar market. This is a batch of clean, hygienic pork with traceable origin. The export price of fresh frozen pork is estimated to be 15% higher than the domestic price.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam stated that the export of fresh frozen meat marks a successful step for the livestock industry. In recent times, in addition to exporting suckling pigs to the Hong Kong (China) and Malaysia markets, the export of fresh meat to the Myanmar market affirms the efforts of the Vietnamese livestock industry.

According to the Deputy Minister, in recent times, the Ministry has directed and implemented effective restructuring, including livestock farming. Vietnam has achieved high growth in its agricultural product exports around the world. Vietnam has exported honey, chicken, suckling pigs and egg products. However, in livestock farming, pigs account for 60% of the total livestock industry value, followed by poultry, beef and other products.

"The concern is how to develop livestock farming, not only ensuring food safety but also aiming for export through official channels because livestock production capacity has exceeded domestic demand. Not only meeting food safety, domestic food, there were times of surplus crisis, for example, having to rescue pork last year," Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam shared.

Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam also affirmed that to export fresh pork to foreign markets, it is necessary to meet many strict market requirements and need certification from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The export of the first batch of pork to the Myanmar market at a price much higher than the domestic market price has opened up a promising direction for the pig farming industry in particular and the livestock industry in general.
