The first ever "Young Franco-Vietnamese Journalists 2016" competition was held.

Le Courrier du Vietnam, a newspaper affiliated with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), is organizing the "Young Francophone-Vietnamese Journalist 2016" competition for all young people living in Vietnam aged 18 to 35 who can speak and write French.

This is the first Francophone journalism competition in Vietnam, organized by Le Courrier du Vietnam – the only French-language weekly newspaper in Vietnam – with the sponsorship of the Asia-Pacific Regional Office (BRAP) of the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF).

The competition also received assistance and support from the Group of Embassies and International Missions Using French in Vietnam (GADIF) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

With the theme "The Power of Words," the competition aims to encourage young people to utilize the diversity and richness of the French language to write about Vietnam, introducing the country, its landscapes, culture, and people to French-speaking readers through their articles, or expressing their feelings and perspectives.

Each participant must submit an application package including a completed application form, a copy of their identity card or passport, and their submitted works. Each author may submit a maximum of 5 works, which can be a series of works on a common theme.

Each entry should not exceed 5,000 characters (including spaces) – equivalent to approximately 900 words. Each article must be accompanied by one or more illustrative photos and photo captions. The photos may be taken by the author or by someone else with the author's permission to use them, and Le Courrier du Vietnam newspaper has the right to publish them.

Entries and submissions must be sent by mail to the editorial board of Le Courrier du Vietnam in DOC or RTF format for articles, and JPEG for photos, to the following address:[email protected].

Entries must be original works that have never been published in any mass media, domestically or internationally. The author(s) must prove or guarantee their copyright ownership of the submitted work.

Eligible entries are those that do not violate the regulations and laws of the Vietnamese State, do not go against the customs and culture of the nation, and do not address issues related to politics and religion.

The deadline for submitting entries is from May 10, 2016 to midnight on July 10, 2016. The finalist entries will be published in early August 2016 on the online newspaper http://lecourrier.vn, in the section “Young Francophone-Vietnamese Journalists 2016” for readers to vote for their favorites.

The Organizing Committee will award 3 prizes, including:

- 1st Prize: A laptop worth 20 million VND, a one-year free subscription to Le Courrier du Vietnam newspaper, and a certificate of winning the competition.

- 1 Second Prize: 1 tablet worth 10 million VND, 6 months of free subscription to Le Courrier du Vietnam newspaper, and a certificate of winning the competition.

- 1 Third Prize: 1 camera worth 5 million VND, 3 months of free subscription to Le Courrier du Vietnam newspaper, and 1 certificate of winning the competition.

In addition, the judging panel may award other supplementary prizes such as "Award for the entry most liked by readers," or "Award for readers who correctly guess the winning entry and the number of votes for that entry"...

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on September 9th in Hanoi.
