Compared to the squad participating in the 2017 Southeast Asian U19 tournament, goalkeeper Truong Thai Hieu was replaced by Duong Van Loi. Midfielders Bui Hoang Viet Anh and Nguyen Huu Tuan were the players who had to make way for Phan Ba Hoang, Dang Tuan Cao Nghia and Nguyen Ly Nam Cung. In the forward line, Vu Van Quyet and Dung Quang Nho were added to Tran Danh Trung, Nguyen Tan Viet and Nguyen Huu Thang.

In the 2018 AFC U19 Championship qualifiers, Vietnam U19 is in Group H with Laos, Chinese Taipei and Macau. The advantage of U18 Vietnam in the tournament is mentality but one of our disadvantages is that we are considered a seeded team. When the Vietnam team is highly rated, the opponent will have to prepare very carefully. With youth football, it is very difficult to find stability in the players' mentality. Hopefully, the Vietnamese players will be in good form to participate in the tournament.
We have to be very careful, there are opponents who are considered weak, but in fact, when playing, they show many strengths. The coaching staff clearly defines discipline as number 1, then comes expertise. With the training conditions being met as they are now, the players' training spirit must be good.
In addition to the home team having many advantages, we should not underestimate the Laos team. Another big obstacle when participating in the tournament is that the team will have to play on artificial turf in Chinese Taipei, but this is also a common difficulty for all teams."
