(Baonghean.vn) - The family, village or private bookcases and libraries below are all interesting and useful community activity spots, contributing to spreading the reading culture in the locality.

One of the most famous bookcases in Dien Chau district is the Thanh Luat Village People's Bookcase in Minh Chau commune, located at the Vo Dai Ton family temple - a provincial historical and cultural relic. Initially a family bookcase, established in 2010 by people passionate about reading culture and the education promotion work of the Vo family in Thanh Luat village, Minh Chau commune, up to now, with more than 4 thousand books, the bookcase has become a useful community activity spot of Thanh Luat village and some neighboring villages, attracting a large number of people and students to read and borrow books on weekends. The person who has been looking after the bookshelf for nearly 13 years is Mr. Vo Xuan Hung (born in 1950) - a retired military officer. Passionate about promoting education and concerned about the decline of reading culture among a segment of the youth, he called on successful children of his family living far away from home in Hanoi and Hai Phong, philanthropists and organizations and individuals working in libraries in and outside the province to support books to establish the bookshelf. People or students who come to read or borrow books are all helped and advised by Mr. Hung to choose suitable books. Photo: Minh Quan

Each time a person comes to read or borrow a book, Mr. Vo Xuan Hung records and monitors it carefully, along with rewards for students who read or borrow a lot of books. However, Mr. Hung also has a "condition": For students who borrow books, each time they return a book, they must summarize the basic content of the book they borrowed. Photo: Minh Quan

In addition, as a member of the Vo Dai Ton Family Promotion Committee of Thanh Luat village, Mr. Vo Xuan Hung also coordinated with the Board of Directors, teachers of Minh Chau Primary and Secondary School to encourage students to come to the bookshelf to read and borrow books for free. Students who read books diligently, even if they do not achieve the title of excellent student at the end of the year, are still rewarded by the Promotion of Education Association on par with excellent students. In Hung Nguyen district, Ke Sia Village Bookshelf in Hamlet 5, Hung Dao commune is considered the first village bookshelf model in Hung Nguyen district. Established in 2021, the bookshelf now has more than 2,000 books. Every day, 15-20 students come to read and borrow books. Photo: Minh Quan

The founder of Ke Sia Village Bookcase is Mr. Tran Dinh Nguyen (born in 1963) - a son of the village, a retired official of the Minerals Department. Having a passion for reading since childhood, with the desire to build and develop a reading movement for local people, he discussed with the Party Committee, Executive Committee, and Front Work Committee of Hamlet 5, Hung Dao Commune to establish Ke Sia Village Bookcase. The bookcase is located in Mr. Tran Dinh Nguyen's private home instead of the Village Cultural House, which he said is so that "it can conveniently welcome readers at any time." Photo: Minh Quan

To enrich the bookshelf, Mr. Tran Dinh Nguyen called on Facebook for sponsorship from book lovers, thereby mobilizing many organizations and individuals to join in, such as: Nghe Tinh Fellow Countrymen Association in Hanoi, Hung Nguyen Fellow Countrymen Association in Ho Chi Minh City... Currently, the majority of the bookshelf is publications about historical and cultural celebrities, technical books, local literary magazines, children's comics and famous works written for school-age children. Most of the readers who come to the bookshelf are children in Hung Dao commune and some neighboring communes. Photo: Minh Quan

In Hamlet 6B, Nghia Dong Commune (Tan Ky), for nearly 20 years, Thuy Nga Free Library has also been a familiar cultural destination for local people. With more than 7,000 books, this is one of the largest private libraries in the province. Among the readers who come to the library, the majority are students from Le Loi High School. The owner of the library, Ms. Tran Thuy Nga (born in 1985), is a very special woman. Despite being disabled due to polyarthritis, with her passion for reading, Ms. Thuy Nga gradually accumulated thousands of books and in 2004 she opened a free library to serve the community. To have funds to develop the library, Thuy Nga opened a small grocery store, selling agricultural products such as peanuts, beans, turmeric starch, tapioca starch, etc. Photo: Minh Quan

With the help of philanthropists, the library is regularly supplemented with new books, with a variety of genres from literature books, life skills and self-development books, science books, history books, health books, children's books, books about life... Photo: Minh Quan

Every time she receives a new book, Ms. Thuy Nga personally sews the spine of the book and covers it with plastic to preserve it better. In addition, before the library had no seal, despite her disabled fingers, she often meticulously wrote the library information and the date of receipt on the inside cover of the book. Recently, when the library has a seal, at the request of many young readers, she still writes her name next to the seal and that is also her joy every time she receives a new book. Photo: Minh Quan
