(Baonghean.vn) - From June to August, the peanut oil pressing profession in Hung Xuan, Hung Nguyen (Nghe An) begins to bustle again in the main crop season. There are times when the village produces thousands of liters of peanut oil every day.

Peanuts are carefully selected by people before being pressed into oil.

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy's family specializes in pressing peanut oil in Hung Xuan commune and said: This profession has existed in the village for a long time, but due to the development of industrial oils, it has temporarily subsided.

Over the past 15 years, when food quality has become more of a concern for consumers, peanut oil has become a popular product. Thanks to that, the manual peanut oil pressing profession in Hung Xuan commune has once again revived.

Currently, the whole commune has from 20 to 25 households working in peanut oil pressing, concentrated from hamlet 8 to hamlet 10. The main peanut oil pressing season starts from June to August every year.

People are squeezing peanuts with hand-wound force.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Vinh, a peanut oil presser, after the peanuts are carefully selected, they will be pounded into flour and then roasted for 15-20 minutes. Next, they will be wrapped into cakes and put into a hand-screwed mold to be pressed into oil.

During the process, the presser must pay attention to ensure that the peanuts are cooked evenly to produce delicious oil. Peanuts used for pressing oil are purchased by people everywhere, from the province to Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

After being pressed, the oil will be filtered through a sieve to ensure purity.

When coming to Hung Xuan commune, customers can buy 5-liter bottles of pre-pressed peanut oil, type I, for 450,000 VND, equivalent to 90,000 VND/liter. There is also type II peanut oil, priced at 70,000 VND/liter.

Or customers can hire an oil press for 60,000 VND excluding peanuts. About 22 kg of unripe peanuts will produce about 10 liters of peanut oil.

After pressing, if customers do not need to use the dry peanuts, many people will buy them back at 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg to make animal feed.

During each main crop season, each family in Hung Xuan can press up to 2 - 4 quintals of peanuts per day.

Customers can bring peanuts to be pressed into oil or come to the store to buy pre-pressed peanut oil to take home.

Most of the customers who rent or buy peanut oil come from Vinh city, Ha Tinh… Customers who order oil pressing not only serve their family’s needs but also send it as gifts to provinces and cities across the country.
