For two consecutive years, the peopleseafood processing village in Cua Lo townfaced difficulties when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, seafood was in stock and sluggish. In the last months of the year, goods circulated better, the seafood market gradually warmed up, so the villagers were very excited.
At this time, shrimp paste and shrimp paste processing facilities are also busy with packaging, marketing and distributing products. Ms. Bui Thi Hang, a member of the Binh Minh Cooperative, Binh Minh seafood processing village (Nghi Thuy ward) said: "To have goods to serve this Tet season, since April, my family has selected the freshest sea shrimp and anchovies and fermented them. After 8 months, the fish sauce has now matured, with the right aroma and deliciousness. Currently, we are focusing on packaging for wholesale to agents and traders in markets in the province. It is predicted that this Tet, the amount of goods sold may increase 2-3 times compared to normal days...".

Grilled mackerel in Cua Lois also a dish chosen by many people during Tet. In addition to serving on the tray, this is also a gift that many people look for. To meet customer requirements, Cua Lo grilled mackerel products are vacuum-sealed, packaged in beautiful paper boxes with weights of 1kg, 2kg and 4kg boxes.
According to Mr. Truong Nhu Hung, owner of Hung Nom grilled mackerel production facility (Nghi Hai), this Tet, it is expected to consume about 10 tons of mackerel, the main market is within the province and the southern provinces. Therefore, at present, in addition to mobilizing more workers, his production facility has invested in more machinery, equipment, and expanded the workshop for production. At the same time, the family's frozen warehouse has also prepared a large amount of carefully selected mackerel to serve Tet goods.

Mr. Hung said: “Although input costs have increased due to the impact of rising gasoline prices, we have signed contracts with distributors with stable prices. While in previous months, revenue decreased by 50% due to the Covid-19 epidemic, starting from this month, goods have sold better and the number of orders has increased. Currently, in addition to traditional customers, I am promoting consumption connections with Nghe An people in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia... From mid-November until now, on average, we have exported about 1 ton of mackerel to the market every day.”

It is worth noting that, to ensure food hygiene and safety, in addition to fresh and delicious ingredients, the villagers have switched from fermenting in cement tanks to earthenware jars; packaging technology has also been replaced by modern production lines; plastic fish sauce bottles have been replaced by glass. To meet the demand for gifts during Tet, producers have introduced many designs such as 5-liter, 10-liter gift boxes or 1-liter, 2-liter gift baskets... to meet the needs of many customers.
In other households, people are also busy sorting and packaging dried seafood such as squid, shrimp, prawns, etc. to transport to wholesalers. According to the estimates of the production households, the demand for fish sauce, shrimp, frozen seafood, and dried seafood will increase 3-4 times compared to normal days. Therefore, at this time, people in the coastal area of Cua Lo have prepared goods to supply the market, contributing to bringing the salty taste of the sea to the Tet meal of each family.
