The Australian cattle fattening farm in Nghi Lam commune, Nghi Loc district is developing quite rapidly, bringing high economic efficiency. Up to now, the farm has 3,500 cows. To provide food for the farm, people have converted some rice fields to grass and corn fields with a total area of over 50 hectares. This is a new model with the outstanding advantage of helping farmers save time and effort, while achieving high economic efficiency.
According to the calculations of the people, growing grass and corn for cows brings high economic efficiency because the care is not much, the plants are less susceptible to pests and diseases and grow quickly. On average, it can be harvested once every 3 months. Each year, there are at least 4 crops, each crop harvests 60 tons/ha, earning nearly 200 million VND/year, much higher than growing rice.

Mr. Dang Tho Tien in Hamlet 2, Nghi Lam Commune, Nghi Loc said: "My family grows nearly 1 hectare of VA06 grass for cows, earning nearly 200 million VND each year. Growing grass requires little care and is less susceptible to pests and diseases. If I have more land, I will continue to expand the cultivation of this type of grass."
Mr. Phan Van Hieu - Chairman of Nghi Lam Commune People's Committee - Nghi Loc said: In order for people to actively change the crop structure, Nghi Lam has promoted the benefits and effectiveness of the corn growing model for livestock farming. Along with that, strengthen the connection between cattle raising households and corn growing households, ensuring adequate supply of necessary food for the cattle herd.
