The leaders of the two Koreas planted a pine tree near the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) that separates the two Koreas. The event came after their historic summit earlier in the day. Beneath the tree was a plaque that read, "We want peace and prosperity," and was signed by both leaders.

Earlier, Mr. Kim returned to South Korea and met with President Moon to begin a commemorative tree planting ceremony.

This pine tree dates back to 1953, the year the armistice was signed.

After North Korean leader Kim Jong-un shook hands with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, the two leaders shoveled soil onto a pre-planted pine tree.

The tree dates back to 1953. Mr. Kim used soil from a mountain on Jeju Island, while Mr. Moon used soil from Mount Paektu in the North. Each leader watered the tree with water from their respective countries. After planting the tree, the two sides returned to talks.
Meanwhile, 11 North Korean singers, artists and other performers will attend the banquet tonight after the summit. In addition, 26 North Koreans and 34 South Koreans will also attend the banquet.
