The Pentagon, a little-known target of the 9/11 attacks

Aside from the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon is not often mentioned as a target of the terrorist attacks of the day.September 11, 2001.

On September 11, 2001, a total of four Boeing planes were hijacked by Al-Qaeda to carry out bloody attacks on the United States. However, American Airlines Flight 77 crashing into the Pentagon seems to not be mentioned whenever the American public mentions this tragic event, according to Slate.fr.

The documentary "Inside the Pentagon" by director Kirk Wolfinger was released on September 6 to "return" this event to its actual historical value.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Boeing aircraft with flight number 757-223 began its scheduled flight from the airport.Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia to Los Angeles International Airport, California.

OnlyThirty-five minutes after takeoff, hijackers stormed the cockpit, overpowered the pilot, and forced the passengers and crew toward the back of the plane. Hani Hanjour, one of the hijackers, a trained pilot, took control and steered the plane toward Arlington County.

9:37', groupThe hijacker crashed the plane into the west side of the Pentagon. The ensuing explosion severely damaged an area of the US Department of Defense headquarters and caused a large fire that killed 10 people.It took firefighters days to completely extinguish the fire.

A total of 184 people were killed, including many civilians.

According to director Kirk Wolfinger,The Pentagon is so large (about 500,000 square meters), that an explosion caused by a plane here seems to have little impact compared to what happened in downtown New York.

The small number of deaths at the US Department of Defense headquarters (184 compared to 2,753) is also the reason.making the attack here less remembered by the American public than the two attacks on the twin towers in Manhattan.

However, the tragic details recounted, such as the Pentagon staff trying to escape from a sealed office by throwing printers at the window but failing, or a group of workers refusing to leave the building when there was a danger warning because they had not yet finished dealing with the building's water problem, are enough to recreate the pain and courage of the Americans.
