The Pentagon confirmed that the US had just conducted an airstrike campaign against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) organization in Afghanistan on August 28, in response to the bloody attack at Kabul airport on August 26, which killed at least 13 US soldiers and many Afghans.
US Central Command spokesman - Navy Colonel William Urban announced: "The drone strike was conducted in Afghanistan's Nangahar province.isdissolved. Initial indications are that we have destroyed the target."
Colonel Urban confirmed that there were no civilian casualties in this retaliatory attack.
The US Central Command said the airstrike targeted a key member of ISIS-K, the IS affiliate in Afghanistan, believed to be involved in planning the attacks at Kabul airport on August 26.
The airstrike killed one person.
The airstrike followed a statement from US President Joe Biden. After the deadly bombings at Hamid Karzai airport, Mr. Biden vowed to hunt down and hold those behind them accountable.
