Referring to geopolitical issues, Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov warned that by 2030, the level of existing and potential military threats to Russia could "increase significantly." This level depends mainly on the competition for fuel and energy resources between the world's leading countries, on the market for goods consumption as well as living space...

Mr. Gerasimov affirmed that the competition for raw materials will cause countries to increase their military potential and these are potential risks to Russia's national defense and security.

Last March, Colonel General Gerasimov also reviewed the results of the reform of the Russian military, which was initiated under former Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov.

The General said that the rate of new weapons equipped in the army in recent years has increased to 16% and Russia aims to increase this rate to 70% by 2020./.
