Le Cong Vinh competes for a seat on the VFF Executive Committee, term 8
On the night of April 18, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced the list of candidates nominated and agreed to run for the 8th VFF Executive Committee for the 2018-2022 term, which did not include Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc.
According to VFF, the Congress's personnel subcommittee has compiled a total of 64 nominated candidates, of which 46 nominated candidates have submitted their candidacy applications and accepted to run for election (as of April 16, 2018).
There was 1 candidate nominated to join the Executive Committee but did not run because he confirmed that he would run for the 8th term of the VFF Inspection Committee (the VFF charter stipulates that members of the Inspection Committee cannot be members of the Executive Committee). The remaining 17 nominated candidates did not complete their application or confirmed that they would not run for election.
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan ran for both chairman and vice chairman.

For the position of VFF president, there are 4 candidates nominated and confirmed to run for election: Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan (Vice President of VFF, term 7), Mr. Can Van Nghia (Director of My Dinh National Sports Complex), Mr. Le Quy Phuong (former principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Sports), Mr. Nguyen Cong Khe (Chairman and General Director of Thanh Nien Media Group Joint Stock Company).
There are 4 candidates running for the position of Vice President in charge of professional affairs, including Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan (Vice President of VFF, term 7), Mr. Duong Vu Lam (member of the Executive Committee of VFF, term 7), Mr. Pham Van Tuan (Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training) and Mr. Pham Ngoc Vien (member of the Executive Committee of VFF, term 7).
There are three candidates running for the position of Vice President in charge of finance: Mr. Tran Anh Tu (Chairman of the Board of Directors of VPF Company), Mr. Tran Van Lieng (Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Vietnam Cacao Joint Stock Company), and Mr. Le Van Thanh (Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Dong Luc Joint Stock Company).

The most popular candidate is the position of Vice President of Communications, with 6 candidates running for this position: Mr. Cao Van Chong (Executive Director in charge of communications of the Industrial Investment and Development Corporation - Becamex IDC), Mr. Nguyen Xuan Gu (Vice President of Communications of VFF, Term 7), Mr. Luong Hoang Hung (Editor-in-Chief of Intellectual Property & Creativity Magazine), Mr. Nguyen Van Phu (Editor-in-Chief of Football Newspaper), Mr. Nguyen Lan Trung (Chairman of the Cooperation and Development Council of the University of Foreign Languages, VNU), Mr. Phan Anh Tu (General Secretary of the Hanoi Football Federation).
Among the candidates running for the VFF president position, only Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan is running for both the president and professional vice president positions. There are three candidates running for vice president and also running for the position of Executive Committee member: Mr. Le Van Thanh, Nguyen Van Phu, Phan Anh Tu and Nguyen Lan Trung.
If the election method of the 8th congress remains the same as the 7th congress, it means that if Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan is not elected as chairman, he will continue to run for the position of professional vice chairman.

In the list of 46 candidates running for the 8th term of VFF, for the first time there is the name of former football star Le Cong Vinh, currently the chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Football Club. Le Cong Vinh will run for one of the 17 seats on the Executive Committee of VFF term 8.
Thus, out of 46 candidates, 16 are running for the positions of president and vice president.
