(Baonghean.vn) - Since 1914, the cherry blossom festival has been held annually in Washington D.C., USA, at the end of March and beginning of April.
The Yoshino cherry blossom variety was gifted to the people of Washington D.C. in 1912 by the Mayor of Tokyo, Japan, Yukio Ogiaky. Currently, there are approximately 3,750 Yoshino cherry blossom trees planted around Tidat Basin in the heart of Washington D.C., and this variety is the most beloved by the Japanese.
This year, due to the severe cold weather and prolonged snowstorms, the cherry blossoms bloomed a week later than last year, only reaching full bloom on April 12th (the main day of the festival), creating a shimmering pink and white spectacle around the shores of Tidat Basin. The cherry blossom festival here features 90 entertainment events and cultural and artistic exchanges between the American and Japanese people, with the most unique being the flower float procession, which stretches along Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Street. The cherry blossom festival attracted nearly 1 million domestic and international visitors, generating an estimated $100 million in revenue from related services.
