On July 20th, for the first time in 54 years, the Cuban flag flew in Washington D.C., marking the official normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to Reuters, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez presided over the raising of the Cuban flag outside the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C. More than 500 people, including U.S. government officials, members of Congress, and members of the Cuban delegation, were present to witness the ceremony.

Outside the building, hundreds of people excitedly witnessed this historic event. Many chanted: "Cuba: yes. Sanctions: no." Afterward, US Secretary of State John Kerry will officially welcome Mr. Rodriguez at the US State Department headquarters.
