100th Anniversary of Comrade Vo Thuc Dong's Birth

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 1, in Thanh Chuong district, a solemn ceremony took place to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of comrade Vo Thuc Dong (1914 - 2014).

Attending the ceremony were comrades Tran Van Hang, member of the Party Central Committee - Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, Nguyen Xuan Thang, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Major General Nguyen Sy Hoi, Deputy Commander of Military Region IV. On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrades Ho Duc Phoc - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; many generations of cadres and people of Thanh Chuong district and leaders of Kon Tum, Quang Binh provinces and Duc Pho district, Quang Ngai province.

The commemorative speech was read by Thanh Chuong District Party Secretary Le Quang Dat, highlighting the life, background, career and contributions of comrade Vo Thuc Dong to the Vietnamese revolution and the cause of national construction and innovation in general, and to his hometown Nghe An and Thanh Chuong in particular. Comrade Vo Thuc Dong was born in September 1914 in Thanh Ngoc commune, Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province - former member of the Party Central Committee of the 3rd and 4th terms; former National Assembly delegate of the 3rd and 4th terms; held the positions of Secretary of Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the Soviet Union; Chairman of the Central Agricultural Committee; Minister of Agriculture; Head of the Central Agricultural Committee.

Comrade Vo Thuc Dong (1914-2007) belonged to the golden generation of the Vietnamese revolution, participating in the revolution since he was a student; was specially admitted to the Party at the age of 16; was imprisoned for 13 years in the "hell on earth" Con Dao with Le Hong Phong, Ton Duc Thang, Le Duan, Pham Hung,... Throughout his life of dedication to the revolution, shouldering many different responsibilities, Comrade Vo Thuc Dong always fulfilled his responsibilities in all fields of politics, military, diplomacy, and was awarded the Gold Star Order, the Ho Chi Minh Order; the 70-year Party membership badge and many other noble awards from our Party and State and other friendly countries.

Comrade Vo Thuc Dong passed away in 2007 at the age of 93. His life and revolutionary career left many precious ideological values ​​to generations of cadres, party members and people.
