Celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Vo Thuc Dong

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 1st, a solemn ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Vo Thuc Dong (1914 – 2014) was held in Thanh Chuong district.

Attending the ceremony were Central Committee members Tran Van Hang – Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, Nguyen Xuan Thang – President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Major General Nguyen Sy Hoi – Deputy Commander of Military Region IV. Representing Nghe An province were Ho Duc Phoc – Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Xuan Duong – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; numerous generations of officials and people from Thanh Chuong district; and leaders from Kon Tum, Quang Binh provinces and Duc Pho district, Quang Ngai province.

Comrade Nguyen Van Nam - Chief of the Office of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, delivered a speech at the commemoration ceremony.

Thanh Chuong District Party Secretary Le Quang Dat delivered a speech at the commemoration ceremony.

The commemorative speech, delivered by the Secretary of the Thanh Chuong District Party Committee, Le Quang Dat, highlighted the life, background, career, and contributions of Comrade Vo Thuc Dong to the Vietnamese revolution and the national construction and renovation in general, and to his homeland of Nghe An and Thanh Chuong in particular. Comrade Vo Thuc Dong was born in September 1914 in Thanh Ngoc commune, Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province. He was a former member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 3rd and 4th terms; a former National Assembly delegate for the 3rd and 4th terms; and held positions as Secretary of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee, and Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the Soviet Union; Chairman of the Central Agricultural Committee; Minister of Agriculture; and Head of the Central Agricultural Department.

Comrade Vo Thuc Dong (1914-2007) belonged to the golden generation of the Vietnamese revolution. He joined the revolution while still a student; was granted special admission to the Party at the age of 16; and was imprisoned for 13 years in the "hell on earth" of Con Dao Island along with Le Hong Phong, Ton Duc Thang, Le Duan, Pham Hung, etc. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to the revolution, shouldering many different responsibilities. Comrade Vo Thuc Dong always fulfilled his duties in all fields of politics, military, and diplomacy, and was awarded the Gold Star Medal, the Ho Chi Minh Medal, the 70-Year Party Membership Badge, and many other prestigious awards from the Party and State of Vietnam and friendly countries.

Comrade Vo Thuc Dong passed away in 2007 at the age of 93. His life and revolutionary career have left behind many valuable ideological values ​​for generations of cadres, Party members, and the people.
