Le Thien Hieu received the Dedication Award: In addition to talent and effort, a little luck is needed.

Le Thien Hieu is one of the most prominent names in the Vietnamese music industry in 2016. Named in the Song of the Year category at the 12th Dedication Awards with the song “Ong ba anh”, Le Thien Hieu is expected to continue to “make history” in the near future.

After the Dedication Awards Ceremony, we had a conversation with Hieu about the successes the young singer has achieved and the story surrounding “Ong ba anh” - the song that excelled over other “huge” hits to win the award for song of the year.

- Hieu is a young singer but has "defeated" many strong competitors to be honored in the Song of the Year category, are you proud of yourself?

When I received the Song of the Year award, I was extremely surprised. Because I never dreamed of this prestigious award, nor could I imagine that I could surpass many talented singers and musicians to win the award. This is luck and perhaps also the favor of the organizers and the audience for me.

Being able to participate in the Sing my song program was a very important turning point for Hieu. In the past 6 months, I was overwhelmed by what had happened and felt very lucky. However, this luck also made me quite nervous and afraid that if God gave me too much luck, at some point, bad luck would come.

- Does that mean Hieu doesn't believe in his real ability? Hieu thinks winning the Dedication Award is just a matter of luck?

I think that in any competition, in addition to talent, effort and hard work, a little luck is needed. I have had many sleepless nights, struggling with emotions to be able to write a song, but just my own effort and hard work is not enough. A song's success depends on many factors.

Speaking of this year's Dedication Award, I personally think that the musicians nominated are all talented and the winners are just luckier. Hieu's win in the Song of the Year category is truly an unimaginable achievement.

- When receiving the Dedication Award, Hieu thanked his grandparents and ex-lover for inspiring him to write. What is that, can Hieu share with readers?

Since childhood, Hieu has heard many stories from his grandmother. Especially the love story of his grandparents, it affected Hieu a lot. The love story in the song "Ong ba anh" is completely about his grandparents. When he grew up, he had a girlfriend, a lover, which made Hieu think a lot about the love story of the two of them with the old love of his grandparents.

As for the ex-lover, it can be said that, in the second part of the lyrics, Hieu used all the details that happened in reality to write. At that time, I was in my second year of university, only 20 years old. Love at this age is quite innocent, but has a modern sound. It affected me a lot so I put it right into the song. Because of the above, Hieu sent his thanks to his grandparents and ex-lover. Because, without them, there would be no song "Ong ba anh", and of course there would be no Le Thien Hieu of today.

- A personal question, after that ex-girlfriend, how many times has Hieu's heart skipped a beat?

In fact, from then until now, Hieu has only had this ex-girlfriend. This love is quite deep and has affected me deeply. Hieu also has to confess, there were times when he was moved but it was just "infatuation". That feeling was just a temporary excitement, not a deep feeling.

- Is anyone in Hieu's family an artist? Is the ability to write music a talent or inherited?

No one in Hieu's family is in the music industry. When he was young, Hieu showed his love for music and also wanted to pursue this career. Although his family knew that Hieu loved music, they did not support him. However, after participating in the Sing my song contest and being loved by the audience, Hieu's family was very surprised.

After winning the award, Hieu has somewhat affirmed himself and his seriousness towards music. This has helped my family feel secure and support me. After knowing that Hieu won the award, my grandparents and family were very happy. Everyone called to congratulate and encourage me.

Having my family support made me extremely happy. It was an indescribable feeling that still makes Hieu feel elated to this day.

- After surpassing many strong competitors to win the Song of the Year category, what are Hieu's plans for the future?

In the near future, Hieu will continue to work with the team to make the MV “Ong ba anh”. I will put all my efforts into completing it in the most complete way. Currently, Hieu is still working independently and has the support of a team, so I have to call for more sponsorship. Because I am working on my own, the time to complete the MV may be longer than others. Hopefully, the MV will be warmly received by the audience.
