Was Chavez's inauguration ceremony postponed?
According to AFP, Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro said on January 4 that President Hugo Chavez, who is undergoing cancer treatment in Cuba, could continue to hold the position of head of state even if he is unable to be sworn in on January 10 as planned.
Holding a copy of the constitution in his hand while answering questions on television, Maduro asserted that the constitution allows the president to take the oath of office before the Supreme Court at a later date.

Earlier, the Prensa Latina news agency, citing an official Venezuelan government statement on January 3, reported that President Hugo Chavez had contracted a lung infection following cancer surgery in mid-December last year.
The statement clarified that this was the cause of President Chavez's breathing difficulties and required him to strictly adhere to the treatment regimen.
This document also warns the Venezuelan people about the psychological warfare waged by the international media regarding President Chavez's health, aimed at destabilizing the country and collapsing the Bolivarian Revolution he led.
