Nearly 100 police officers were on the scene to rescue the man because they thought he was high on drugs and intending to commit suicide.

At around 3:15 p.m. on November 21, people discovered a young man named Hieu (25 years old, residing in Lam Dong province) in a colorful outfit lying on top of the 50m high tower of Thuan Phuoc Bridge across the Han River (Da Nang).

Upon receiving the news, nearly 100 police officers were dispatched to the scene to rescue the man. The rescue force was divided into two main groups. One group climbed the stairs to the top of the tower to approach the young man. Another group stayed in the river to inflate the buoy in case he jumped.

Thuan Phuoc Bridge was also blocked. However, when the police met Hieu on top of the tower, they discovered that he was sleeping.

The young man was strapped in a safety belt and brought safely to the ground, then handed over to the police of Thuan Phuoc ward (Hai Chau district) to handle the act of disturbing public order.

Hieu said he climbed to the top of the largest suspension bridge tower in Vietnam to film a video of himself dancing and upload it to YouTube to "attract views" and earn money. In 2016, he made a similar video.
