Lexus LS 2018 price from 75,000 USD
The new generation luxury sedan has been sold in the US since February 2018 with the highest price of up to 100,000 USD.
Synonymous with “new generation” are some major changes. First, there’s no V8, but a 3.5-liter V6. That might sound like a downgrade, but the V6 (non-hybrid) makes 30 more horsepower than the V8, and 75 pound-feet more torque. With 416 horsepower and 444 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic, the rear-wheel-drive LS500 goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
The 5th generation Lexus LS was launched at the 2017 Detroit exhibition with a design language that emphasizes personality, sportiness and luxury. |
Unlike some of its luxury sedan rivals, the LS’s chassis is made of steel, not aluminum. Aluminum is used for the body. The Japanese automaker says it chose steel for its strength, and it’s the stiffest chassis Lexus has ever built.
That's why the new LS is so heavy. Curb weight ranges from 2,153 kg for the LS500 with all-wheel drive and shock absorbers to 2,370 kg for the LS500h with all-wheel drive and the Executive package.
The LS uses the Global Architecture-Luxury (GA-L) platform that first appeared on the LC500 - a sleek coupe with a sporty style. With a 3,124 mm wheelbase, the LS looks like a stretched sedan version.
When the car goes on sale early next year, customers will be able to choose the LS F Sport package. The rear-wheel-drive LS500 F Sport rides on 20-inch alloy wheels with 245/45RF front and 275/40RF rear tires, with six-piston calipers with 400mm discs up front and four-piston calipers with 359mm discs at the rear.
The LS also offers optional heated and massage rear seats, with 48-degree reclining rear seats. The door panels feature a special, striking finish made of traditional Japanese Kiriko glass. There are nine interior colors, with two more added for the F Sport.
The LS500 is supported by the VDIM intelligent vehicle management system, with TRAC/TRC cruise control, VSC electronic stability control, electric power steering, VGRS variable gear ratio steering system and drag reduction spoiler (DRS). If you choose the airbag suspension instead of the spring, customers can also get the AVS adaptive suspension system.
Although the new LS also features Lexus CoDrive, an all-speed active radar cruise control system with Lane Keeping Assist (LTA) and Lane Departure Warning (LDA), Lexus says it is not an autonomous driving system. Drivers are advised by the Japanese company to always keep their hands on the wheel and actively drive in all situations.
With a starting price of $75,000 in the US, the new generation Lexus LS is cheaper than some competitors such as the BMW 7 series ($83,100) or Mercedes S-class ($89,900).
