History of confrontation between Vietnam and Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan football has a special relationship with Vietnam football as the two have met a total of 6 times in all tournaments and at all levels in the past. The result of those meetings is that Vietnam has never won against this opponent from Central Asia.

However, one thing that makes fans optimistic is that at the U23 level, Vietnam has drawn with Uzbekistan twice. U23 Vietnam first met U23 Uzbekistan in 2013 at the Eximbank Cup 2011.

Under coach Falko Goetz, U23 Vietnam faced a team from Central Asia in the campaign to win the VFF Eximbank Cup 2011 and prepare for the 26th Sea Games in Indonesia. 2. U19 Vietnam 0-4 U19 Uzbekistan (November 4, 2012)

In the group stage of the U19 Asia, after drawing 2-2 with U19 North Korea, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team confidently entered the match to welcome U19 Uzbekistan. However, a relaxed mentality could not help the young players have a good position against the team from Central Asia. The 0-4 scoreline showed the difference between the level and potential of the two teams.

3. Uzbekistan 3-1 Vietnam (October 16, 2013 – Asian Cup 2015 Qualifiers)

The stormy away trip to Uzbekistan made the legs of Thanh Luong, Anh Duc, and Trong Hoang not steady enough to keep 1 point from the match. Although they had a good game from the first 45 minutes, everything quickly changed when Uzbekistan opened the score, and in the following minutes they scored 2 more goals to end the match quickly.

4. Vietnam 0-3 Uzbekistan (November 16, 2013)

In the second leg at My Dinh, despite their best efforts, coach Phan Van Phuc and his team were unable to turn the tables after losing 0-3.
