"Autumn Melodies 2013" Art Festival
From August 16th to 22nd, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Symphony Orchestra and Opera House, organized the "Autumn Melodies 2013" art festival, featuring seven impressive and spectacular nights of music and dance performances.
Over the past eight years, the "Autumn Melodies" program has continuously developed, expanded, and improved in artistic quality. This program honors the achievements of Vietnamese artistic talents both domestically and internationally who have achieved outstanding accomplishments and awards in the field of art.

In 2013, in response to new development needs, the "Autumn Melodies" program will be upgraded and expanded into an art festival, with the participation of hundreds of professional artists from Vietnam and abroad in the fields of symphony, opera, and ballet. The program will take place from August 16-22, 2013 at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House with 7 performances. Each performance will be a unique and special artistic program featuring works in different styles.
On the first night, August 16th, the audience will enjoy the talents of two young pianists from Russia, Dieu Linh and Dieu An. In addition, the concerto for clarinet and bassoon, a rare work in the concerto genre, will be performed by Vietnam's number one bassoonist, Nguyen Tri Dung from the Vietnam Symphony Orchestra, and clarinetist Nguyen Quoc Bao from the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Tran Manh Hung's folk song suite "The Flow" is a first in this genre, presented on a large scale with vibrant stage production, a highlight of this year's program.
The performance on August 17th featured Bui Cong Duy, currently Vietnam's number one violinist, with the Hanoi Ensemble, a group of outstanding artists from the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
The performance on August 18th will feature the latest work by choreographers Phuc Hai and Phuc Hung, a contemporary dance piece that received high praise after its premiere on July 9th, 2013.
The performance on August 19th will feature seven young Russian talents from the Spivakov Youth Foundation. They will perform on piano, violin, accordion, domra (a Russian musical instrument), and ballet.
The performance on August 20th was the highly anticipated ballet "Cinderella" by Sergei Prokofiev, choreographed by Norwegian choreographer Johanne Jakhelln Constant, who had success with the HBSO in "The Nutcracker" in 2011 and 2012.
On the evening of August 21st, the piano solo program by the renowned German artist Hinrich Alpers will feature famous works by Beethoven and the two Romantic composers Robert Schumann and Franz Liszt.
The performance on August 22nd was a major program featuring Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 and Johannes Brahms' famous Piano Concerto No. 1. The program was conducted under the direction of the renowned German conductor Christian Schumann.
With its artistic depth and diverse range of activities, the "Autumn Melodies 2013" Art Festival aims to become the most representative art festival of Ho Chi Minh City, organized regularly to serve the city's residents as well as domestic and international tourists.
