Tensions between India and Pakistan are unlikely to escalate into a large-scale war, because there are no irresolvable disputes between New Delhi and Islamabad, and the strategic balance of forces is preserved - many experts say, according to Sputnik.

According to General Yuri Baluyevsky, former Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, the current flare-up in the disputed Kashmir region will lead to local clashes, but, as in previous crises, will not turn into a full-scale military conflict.

"The conflict began neither yesterday nor today. From a military point of view, neither side has to engage in large-scale hostilities. I think that local clashes will continue, but there will not be any escalation of military confrontation," Baluyevsky said.

According to General Baluyevsky, this complex situation today attracts little attention from world political leaders. "Everyone is talking about the historic meeting in Hanoi between Kim Jong-un and Trump, few people pay attention to the friction between two countries possessing weapons of mass destruction," the Russian general added.

This point of view is shared by Victor Murakhovsky, a member of the Expert Council of the Russian military-industrial complex. He noted that the most extreme scenario of the development of the conflict that India and Pakistan are ready to implement today is only at the level of air clashes in neighboring airspace areas.

"I think things will go as they have in previous flare-ups: there will be local clashes on the border, possibly moving to local air battles, but at the moment we do not see India and Pakistan creating local strike groups for full-scale conflict," the expert stressed.

The interlocutor of the news agency noted that the guarantee for maintaining the status quo in the India-Pakistan conflict today is approximately equal proportions in the number of troops and their level of combat training.
