Sentenced to 26 years in prison for fraud

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of May 30, the People's Court of Nghe An province sentenced Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh (born in 1975, residing in Vinh City, Nghe An) to 26 years in prison for two crimes of "fraudulent appropriation of property" and "abuse of trust to appropriate property".

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh operated in the field of real estate trading and brokerage and achieved certain success. However, by 2010, her business activities began to suffer losses.

During the period from late 2010 to November 2011, Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh took advantage of the trust of some people by borrowing cars and undertaking quick land transfer procedures, borrowing money and promising to pay the principal and interest to the victims on time as requested, but instead of paying the victims, she fled to Lam Dong to appropriate property.

The investigation agency determined that Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh appropriated a total of 12,785 billion VND from 12 victims (of which nearly 5.9 billion VND was fraudulently appropriated, and nearly 6.9 billion VND was abused of trust).

After the incident was exposed, Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh fled the area and was arrested under a wanted warrant in late 2014.

The investigation agency determined that Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh used a fake land use right certificate to commit the crime. This act has been separated into a separate case, which is currently under further investigation.
