Sentenced to prison for chasing and slashing neighbor's cow into destroying garden

(Baonghean.vn) - Unable to chase the neighbor's cows out of the garden, Khanh used a knife to slash, killing one of the cows.slipfell off the hillside and died.

On October 27, the People's Court of Quy Hop district opened a public trial for defendant Truong Duc Khanh (born 1994), residing in Nam Tiu hamlet, Chau Hong commune, for the crime of "Property destruction".

According to the indictment, at around 8:30 a.m. on June 20, Truong Duc Khanh discovered that the herd of cows belonging to Vi Van Phuc's family (living in the same neighborhood) had entered the garden, so he threw rocks to chase them away.

The herd of cows continued to return to the garden. Khanh went into the kitchen, took a knife, and ran out to chase and slash the neighbor's cows. One cow was slashed in the hip, slipped and fell from the hillside to the flat ground in front of the house and died. Seeing the cow dead, Khanh was scared and fled to Chau Thanh commune to hide. 6 days later, Khanh went to Quy Hop police station to report his actions.

The cow of Mr. Vi Van Phuc's family that was hacked to death by Khanh was valued at 12 million VND. After the incident, Khanh's family compensated the victim's family for the damage.

At court, the victim asked the panel of judges to reduce the defendant's sentence. According to the prosecutor, one of the reasons for the defendant's impulsive actions was that the victim's family had grazed cattle in the neighbor's garden, causing damage to the defendant's crops.

The People's Court sentenced defendant Truong Duc Khanh to 9 months in prison, suspended, with an 18-month probation period, and applied measures prohibiting him from leaving his place of residence.
