Five people were discovered and arrested while transporting a 340kg bomb with the detonator intact to hide and sell.

On September 27, the People's Court of Quang Tri province opened the first instance trial of five people for illegally transporting military weapons. The defendants include: Le Van Hung (45 years old); Hoang Bay (47 years old); Le Van Ty (39 years old); Le Quoc Phuoc (38 years old) and Doan Van Vang (39 years old), all residing in Gio Chau commune, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province.

The subjects transporting bombs to sell appeared in court.

According to the indictment, on April 29, Hung and Bay discovered the bomb while searching for scrap metal in a forest area in Vinh Ha commune, Vinh Linh district. Hung then called Phuoc and Vang to come and dig up the bomb.

On the morning of May 1, they dug up a large bomb and discussed transporting it to hide and sell, and invited Ty to join them. When transporting the bomb to village 5, Ben Quan town, Vinh Linh district, the group was caught red-handed by the police.

According to the assessment, the bomb with the code M117 - 750LB, made by the US and left over from the war, is 2.16m long, weighs 340kg, contains 183kg of explosives, and can explode and cause widespread damage.

The jury sentenced Le Van Hung to 15 months in prison, Hoang Bay to 14 months in prison, Le Van Ty and Le Quoc Phuoc to 12 months of non-custodial reform each, and Doan Van Vang to 9 months of non-custodial reform, all for illegally transporting military weapons./.
