Sentenced for stealing his uncle's buffalo 13 years ago
Prosecuted for “Theft of property”, Ly Nhia Chua fled the locality and was wanted by authorities 13 years ago.
On June 19, 2024, Ky Son District People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Ly Nhia Chua (born 1984), residing in Tham Hoc village, Muong Long commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of "Theft of property".

According to the indictment, at about 4:00 p.m. on September 3, 2011, Ly Nhia Chua walked from his home to his uncle Ly Chia Xa's buffalo and cow farm in Tham Hoc village, Muong Long commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An province (about 1.5 km from the pagoda's house). Upon arrival, Chua used a rope to tie a female buffalo about 10 years old, then led the buffalo out of the barn and took it to Huoi Kha village, Huoi Tu commune, Ky Son district to sell for 13 million VND, which Chua spent all of for personal use.
According to the asset valuation conclusion of the Asset Valuation Council, the buffalo is worth 17 million VND. After being prosecuted, Ly Nhia Chua took his wife and children to Laos to work and live. On April 4, 2024, this subject wasarrestwhen visiting family
At the trial, defendant Ly Nhia Chua admitted all of his crimes. Based on the content of the case, aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced Ly Nhia Chua to 13 months in prison.
