Linh Son - heroic homeland
(Baonghean) - These days, a great joy is coming to the people and armed forces of Linh Son commune (Anh Son): the Provincial People's Committee proposed the State to confer the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces...
Going up National Highway 7A, we arrived at Linh Son commune, a peaceful countryside by the poetic Lam River, with undulating green hills and mountains, famous for its specialty of gay tea. In particular, this is the cradle of the revolution "once rose up" that echoes forever in the Soviet Nghe Tinh song.
Looking back at history, during the resistance war against French colonialism, Linh Son was a locality trusted by the Party Central Committee and Nghe An Provincial Party Committee to organize many important conferences and was the base of many Party agencies, authorities, and provincial organizations. During the resistance war against the US to save the country, Linh Son was a key target of the US Air Force's attacks in order to cut off the traffic artery, Route 7A, to prevent our support to the battlefield. In addition, Linh Son was also the gathering place of many army units and hundreds of thousands of tons of weapons, food, and provisions, to support the battlefields in Laos and the battlefields in the South.
Continuing the traditional source of their homeland, the people of Linh Son have always been at the forefront of revolutionary movements and building a new life. This land has given birth to three talented generals of the Vietnam People's Army: Major General Cao Xuan Khuong - former Deputy Commander of Military Region 4, who fought and died in the campaign to protect Quang Tri Citadel (1972); Major General Nguyen Manh Thang - former Director of the Reconnaissance Department, Border Guard; Major General Pham Van Thach - former Director of the Political Work Department, General Department of Force Building, Ministry of Public Security.
In the early years after the country's reunification in 1975, Linh Son armed forces continued to clear, collect and dismantle 31 magnetic bombs, 547 cluster bombs, and fill 357 bomb craters. To maintain order and eliminate social evils, the commune maintained a mobile militia platoon of 22-25 comrades and a local force of 42 comrades ready to fight when situations arose, ensuring security and order in the village, and protecting people's property.
Carrying out gratitude activities, the commune mobilized people to support the construction of a memorial house with the names of martyrs with the amount of nearly 500 million VND, built 7 gratitude houses worth 236 million VND, repaired houses for 26 war invalids and families of martyrs in difficult circumstances worth 211 million VND. Supported land for 2 seriously wounded war invalids worth 100 million VND. Gave 45 savings books to policy beneficiaries, each worth 3 million VND.
Mr. Nguyen Canh Toan, Chairman of Linh Son Commune People's Committee, excitedly said: With constant efforts, worthy of the tradition of the revolutionary homeland, Linh Son Commune Party Committee has been recognized for many consecutive years as a typical clean and strong Party Committee, awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Provincial Party Committee, the government has always completed its tasks excellently, in 2008 and 2010, the Government and the Provincial People's Committee awarded the flag "Leading unit in the emulation movement", the Fatherland Front and people's organizations have always completed their tasks excellently, awarded Certificates of Merit at the central and provincial levels... The joy is multiplied when the people and armed forces of Linh Son are being proposed by the State to confer the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
