Ground forces in coordination with the Russian Navy and sailors on the Admiral Nevelskoy and Peresvet ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet practiced rapid landing at a forward base in the Primorye region, the country's only border with North Korea.
During the exercise, cargo and personnel boarded the Admiral Nevelskoy in Desantnaya Bay and simulated a landing situation at the Klerk training ground, both in the Primorye region.
The drills come a day before the Pacific Fleet begins a series of training exercises in Primorye and the Kamchatka region in the Far East, involving about 1,000 troops and over 150 pieces of military equipment.
The drills will also include live-fire exercises. They are among several in the Primorye region over the past few months. Russia has successfully conducted bombing runs near the region, paratrooper landings and other exercises since September.
Moscow fundamentally opposes North Korea’s nuclear program and its latest missile test. However, Moscow asserts that the US must also bear some responsibility for angering North Korea and “provoking” it into conducting more weapons tests./.
