Liverpool's dream of winning their first league title in 24 years has almost vanished after Brendan Rodgers' side were held to a 3-3 draw by Crystal Palace, despite leading 3-0.

Having held onto the victory only to let it slip away, in the final 10 minutes, the Reds allowed Palace to score three goals in quick succession, including a brace from Dwight Gayle, leaving striker Luis Suarez in tears as he watched his dream crumble before his eyes.

A point from the draw at Selhurst Park helped Liverpool temporarily climb to the top of the table, one point ahead of Manchester City. However, the Blues could reclaim this position if they win their rescheduled match against Aston Villa tomorrow.

Previously, Liverpool were trailing Man City on goal difference, meaning they would still be ranked lower even with the same number of points. Now, they have fallen even further behind Man City in the race after only earning 1 point in the last 2 rounds (losing to Chelsea in the previous round).

Manchester City have two games left against Aston Villa and West Ham, while Liverpool only have one match against Newcastle at Anfield this weekend.

"I'm very disappointed, losing by three goals is ridiculous," Rodgers said with a frustrated expression on Sky Sports after the match.

Liverpool started brightly and took a 3-0 lead with goals from Joe Allen, Daniel Sturridge, and Luis Suarez, with the Uruguayan striker setting a record of 31 goals in a 38-round season.

But Palace, who had impressively secured their survival, rose strongly by scoring three consecutive goals in the 79th, 85th, and 88th minutes thanks to Dwight Gayle (2) and Damien Delaney, thereby dealing a heavy blow to the Reds' championship ambitions.

When the referee blew the final whistle, Suarez left the pitch in tears, because in the past 24 years, Liverpool had never been so close to winning the championship only to let it all slip away by a hair's breadth.
