Revealing 12 leading brands at Vietnam Imported Automobile and Motorcycle Exhibition 2017

9 car brands and 3 imported motorbike brands jointly organized their own playground in Ho Chi Minh City from October 25 to 29.

VIMS 2017, the third time, brings together 9 car brands, including 5 luxury brands: Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes, Volvo; 3 popular brands: Subaru, Volkswagen, Ssangyong and a truck brand.DFM (DongFeng Motor). ThreeMotorcycle brands include Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Royal Enfield. According to the organizers, the 2017 international auto show will also feature a yacht company.

The Lamborghini fleet at VIMS 2016 will not be present this year.

The organizers revealed that participating car manufacturers will introduce new models to the public for the first time such as Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion 2017, Volkswagen Beetle Dune 2017, new Volvo XC60, Subaru XV 2.0iS, SsangYong G4 Rexton, Stavic and Flyer 7.7 yacht. Audi will introduce special versions of TT and Q3. Besides, there will be motorcycles from 2 large-capacity car manufacturers participating for the first time, Triumph and Royal Enfield.

This year’s exhibition lacks many car brands compared to VIMS 2016 such as Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW, Mini, Maserati, Renault and the BMW Motorrad motorcycle brand. Like previous years, VIMS 2017 does not have the British luxury car brand Rolls-Royce.

However, the absence of many companies that attended the previous two VIMS shows that they are no longer interested, partly because of reduced market demand as people wait for the new tax policy for 2018.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to exempt special consumption tax on the value created domestically of each car model. This proposal pushes the car market into two extremes, the price of domestically assembled cars decreases, the price of imported cars increases.

VIMS is an exhibition organized by Vietnamese automobile importers, taking place for the first time in 2015. This year, the venue is still the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC, District 7), from October 25-29.

A major competitor is the annual Vietnam Motor Show (VMS), which took place in early August, also in Saigon.
