Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang - Chief of the General Staff - Deputy Minister of National Defense recently had a working session with the Institute of Weapons - General Department of Defense Industry.

As a unit with the function of researching science and technology, researching, designing, improving, and manufacturing technical weapons and equipment for the army, the Weapons Institute has participated in research and successfully tested many national and Ministry of Defense level topics on bullets, guns, and new generation weapons.

Outstanding results in scientific research are shown in the fact that research topics are linked to practice and technology is promptly transferred to the weapons production process and initial self-research to create new types of weapons with high technology content.

After introducing to Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang some weapon models such as combat robots, remote-controlled machine gun platforms, and new generation anti-tank guns, surprisingly, two previously unseen infantry gun models appeared.

As for the first gun model in the right corner of the screen, it is easy to recognize that this is a modified design from the PP-91 Bizon submachine gun that is currently in service with anti-terrorist forces and special units of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The PP-19 design team included Victor Kalashnikov (son of famous engineer Mikhail Kalashnikov, designer of the AK-47) and Alexei Dragunov (youngest son of Evgeny Dragunov, creator of the SVD sniper rifle), so it bears many similarities to the AK-47.

PP-91 Bizon submachine gun.

The standard version of the PP-91 Bizon submachine gun uses 9 x 19 mm Parabellum ammunition contained in a 64-round cylindrical magazine, has a rate of fire of 650 - 700 rounds/minute and a muzzle velocity of 380 m/s, and a lethal range of 200 m.

In addition, the gun also has variants Bizon-2-01: Uses 9 x 19 mm Parabellum NATO bullets, cylindrical magazine capacity of 53 rounds. Bizon-2-02: Uses 0.380 ACP bullets (9 x 17 mm short bullets) with 64-round cylindrical magazine. Bizon-2-03: Uses 9 x 18 mm Makarov bullets and adds a silencer at the muzzle;

Bizon-2-04: Semi-automatic carbine version of the PP-19 chambered in 9 x 18 mm Makarov. Bizon-2-05: Semi-automatic version chambered in 9 x 19 mm Parabellum. Bizon-2-06: Semi-automatic carbine version chambered in .380 ACP;

Bizon-2-07: Special version does not use a cylindrical magazine but uses a 35-round 7.62 x 25 mm Tokarev double-stack magazine, this version also has a Picatinny rail system for mounting many accessories;

Finally, the Bizon-3: The model is being developed with many new improvements, possessing a barrel that can be compatible with many different types of suppressors, silencers and flash hiders.

It is not yet clear what caliber of ammunition the Vietnamese Bizon model is compatible with, but from the outside, it can be seen that the biggest change is in the Galil-style folding stock.

STL-A1 assault rifle.

In 2015, Vietnam introduced the STL-A1 submachine gun, which we converted from the AKM. The most noticeable change was that the lower handguard was replaced from wood to plastic, and a left-folding stock and an AK-74-style fire cover were added.

This improvement makes the STL-A1 have features similar to the AK-103, but it still has the weakness of not having a picatinny rail, making accessory integration not very convenient because it must go through the clamping mechanism.

But with the newly introduced version, the STL-A1 has been equipped with a Galil-style right-folding stock with 2 picatinny rails on the breech cover, this weapon has something similar to the upgraded version of the AK-103.

Obviously, taking advantage of the Galil ACE submachine gun manufacturing line of Factory Z111 has brought about infantry gun models with their own identity, not "duplicated" compared to other armies.
