Revealed customer wants to buy Vietnamese patrol boat
According to information from Asia Times, the Philippines will order a number of high-speed patrol boats built by Vietnam with technological support from Russia.
Although it did not specify which type of Vietnamese-made ship the Philippines is interested in, the most promising candidate is probably the TT-400TP gunboat or the TT-400 patrol boat variant - a product of Factory Z173 (Hong Ha Company).
To be able to penetrate the foreign market, the TT-400TP ship is considered not inferior to the similar Russian Svetlyak ship in terms of weapons and equipment, but also superior in speed and travel distance.
Even when compared to the M-58 class gunboat, considered the "pride" of the Thai shipbuilding industry, Vietnam's TT-400TP is superior in many aspects.

According to public information, TT-400TP has a modular design, with this design, the ship has almost complete equipment installed, assembled together in a section method. Thanks to that, the shipbuilding progress is fast and has absolute precision.
The application of the International Quality Standard System ensures strict control of progress and quality for each ship. This is one of the mandatory standards if these ships are exported abroad.
In terms of price, the TT-400TP is much cheaper than the Russian Svetlyak, just buying the preliminary design from abroad has helped save significant costs for Vietnam. Labor costs are also a huge advantage, helping to reduce costs much more than Russian ships.
In addition to the TT-400TP gunboat, its variant, the TT-400, is also on the "list" that the Philippines may want to buy. In Vietnam, the TT-400 is being equipped for the Coast Guard.
TT-400 is 54 m long; 9.3 m wide; and has a displacement of 400 tons. TT-400 patrol boat is equipped with many modern and synchronous devices, capable of operating in level 10 wave conditions.
The TT-400 patrol boats are equipped with two 25mm twin-barreled guns positioned at the front and rear of the boat and two 14.5mm heavy machine guns. The TT-400 boats of the Coast Guard are the trial version built by Hong Ha Shipyard before building the TT-400TP gunboats for the Navy.
According to information from Hong Ha Shipyard, TT-400 and TT-400TP ships have the same hull, with only slight differences in superstructure design and weapon equipment.
In addition to the TT-400TP and TT-400 ships that may be on the export list, over the past 10 years, we have continuously and successfully localized increasingly modern weapons based on the models of weapons and technical equipment originating from the Soviet Union and Russia.
In particular, we have now completely mastered the production of 122mm rocket artillery shells for multiple launch systems such as the BM-21 Grad. The demand for shells for compact systems such as the HM-27 or RL-4 is very large. These systems all use the same shells as the BM-21, so it is very feasible for us to find ways to export BM-21 shells.
In addition, Vietnam has also been self-sufficient in producing many types of guns and anti-tank ammunition that are as powerful as similar foreign products. Therefore, we can hope that in the near future, these weapons will also be included in the list of weapons allowed to be exported by the Vietnamese defense industry.
