Above Ms. Hang’s stall (a seafood seller), the tarpaulin roof was torn apart by a large iron bar. The Ben Thuy Market Management Board is currently repairing the damaged roof. From below, workers can be seen working above. Next to it, a tower crane continuously transports construction materials to the top.
Although the households are still doing business, they are still terrified after the above incident.

According to the feedback of the traders, recently many objects such as bricks, mortar, and stones from the construction site next to the market have fallen onto the market and the roofs of the kiosks. The traders have requested the Ben Thuy Market Management Board to work with the investor to take measures to ensure construction safety during construction.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Tam - Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Ben Thuy Market Cooperative said that after the incident, the Market Management Board, local authorities and ward police arrived at the scene to make a record, recording that the iron bar that fell from the construction site into the market was 3m long.
“Fortunately, the iron bar did not fall on anyone, but the incident made the traders at the market very worried. Before that, we also went to work with the investor to have measures to ensure construction safety due to bricks, stones, and mortar falling into the market and to avoid noise pollution,” said Mr. Tam, adding that although the construction of the high-rise building was more than 5m away from the market fence and had a protective net, the tower crane reaching into the market made people worried.

Ben Thuy Market has an area of nearly 4,000m², currently has nearly 567 small traders and stable business.
It is known that the land under construction near Ben Thuy market is located on Nguyen Du street, Ben Thuy ward, owned by Thanh Nghe Tinh Food Joint Stock Company. After a long period of being "shelved", in August 2017, the project was transferred to Gia Thinh Phat Company Limited to build a 25-storey high-end commercial center and residential building.
This is not the first time in Vinh City that construction materials from high-rise buildings have fallen into the market. Previously, on August 8, 2017, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc (residing in Dong Vinh ward, Vinh city) was selling chicken in Hung Phuc market when a concrete block from the high-rise apartment building construction site next door fell on her, breaking her leg and requiring emergency hospitalization. |
