CNN quoted a senior source in the Pheu Thai party as saying that Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra fled Thailand on August 23. She and her 15-year-old son traveled through Singapore and from there flew directly to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Multiple sources familiar with the government and close to the Shinawatra family told the Bangkok Post that Yingluck Shinawatra arrived in Trat province on August 23 and from there traveled to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There, she received help from influential people, then boarded a chartered plane to Singapore before flying to Dubai to meet her brother.
Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has lived in Dubai since going into exile after a military coup in 2006.
The Bangkok Post reported that government officials had colluded to help her complete immigration procedures and escape through Cambodia. Thai Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, who is in charge of security, denied rumors that security forces intended to let the 50-year-old former prime minister escape.
But Prawit Wongsuwon admitted that Yingluck Shinawatra may have had help to leave Thailand. “She is a former prime minister so there are some officials who can help her,” he said, adding that there was information that she went to Trat and then to Cambodia.
