Could humanity be extinct in 1,000 years?
Professor Stephen Hawking warned that humans will not be able to survive the next 1,000 years if they do not find another planet to settle on.

74-year-old British professor Stephen Hawking, considered the king of physics, painted a bleak picture of the future of humanity when giving a lecture on the universe and human origins at the Oxford Union debating society in the UK recently, according to the Independent.
"Maybe one day we will use gravitational waves to look back to the center of the Big Bang. But we must continue to move into space for the future of humanity. I think it will be very difficult for us to survive another 1,000 years without leaving this fragile planet," said Professor Hawking.
In his lecture, Professor Hawking outlined his understanding of the universe from groundbreaking discoveries over the past five centuries and described 2016 as "a glorious time to be alive and doing theoretical physics".
"Our view of the universe has changed dramatically in the past 50 years and I am delighted to have played a small part. The fact that we have come to understand the laws that govern us and the universe is a great achievement," Professor Hawking said.
After reviewing ambitious experiments that could provide a more precise view of the universe, Professor Hawking said researchers could map millions of galaxies with the help of supercomputers like Cosmos, thereby better understanding humanity's place in the universe.
In January, Professor Hawking stressed that the rapid development of science and technology is creating the wrong direction. He also estimated that if humans cannot build a self-sufficient colony on Mars in the next 100 years, humanity will need to be cautious in the future.
