Series of commune officials prosecuted in connection with 'sand bandits'
Many officials in Thuy Truong commune, Thai Thuy district were prosecuted for allowing "sand bandits" to run rampant in the area.
On January 26, Thai Binh Provincial Police said that the Police Department investigating crimes of corruption, economics, smuggling and environment had decided to prosecute a series of leaders and officials of Thuy Truong commune, Thai Thuy district for lax management, allowing "sand bandits" to run rampant in the area.
Accordingly, the investigation agency prosecuted Dong Minh Chinh (50 years old, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuy Truong commune), Nguyen Mau Tuyen (52 years old, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuy Truong commune) and Bui Anh Binh (61 years old, former cadastral officer of Thuy Truong commune) for the crime of lack of responsibility causing serious consequences.

Initial investigation results determined that from April 24, 2023 to July 28, 2023, the above defendants failed to promptly direct and implement preventive measures to allow Mai Van Ban (65 years old, residing in Thuy Truong commune) to hire people to scoop, transport soil and pump sand (minerals) illegally.
Previously, the Investigation Agency of Thai Binh Provincial Police initiated a criminal case and prosecuted Mai Van Ban for "violating regulations on resource exploitation".
The case is being further investigated and handled by the Investigation Police Agency, Thai Binh Provincial Police according to regulations.
