Series of 300 million cars are about to arrive in Vietnam: Vietnamese users have plenty of options to choose cheap cars
Instead of having only a few cheap cars to choose from, in 2018, Vietnamese consumers have more cheap cars to consider.
Which cheap cars are coming to Vietnam?
There are 4 small, low-cost car models that Japanese car brands are "eager" to bring to Vietnam, by officially introducing the models at the largest auto show in Vietnam recently.
Accordingly, the 4 models include Toyota Wigo, Honda Jazz, Suzuki Celerio and Toyota Avanza. All 4 models have quite cheap prices in the Southeast Asian market, which is the price that most Vietnamese consumers are dreaming of.
Specifically, in the Indonesian market, Toyota Wigo 2017 has a price ranging from 131.5 - 151.9 million Rupiah, equivalent to 224 - 259 million VND.
Toyota Wigo is a small urban car manufactured in Indonesia. According to some sources, the small hatchback Toyota Wigo 2017 will be imported from Indonesia to Vietnam. When sold in Vietnam, this car will compete with names such as Hyundai Grand i10 or Kia Morning.
As for Honda Jazz, in the Malaysian market, this model has a price starting from 368 million VND. This car line will be imported by Honda Vietnam from Thailand and will compete directly with Toyota Yaris.
Toyota Avanza model has a selling price of only 375 million in Indonesia |
It is expected that the Honda Jazz 2017 will have a price and be on sale early next year, when the import tax for car models assembled in the ASEAN region with a localization rate of over 40% is reduced to 0.
Suzuki Celerio is one of the cheapest cars in Southeast Asian markets. In India, the price of Suzuki Celerio is only from 6,250 USD (equivalent to 143 million VND) while in Thailand it is 10,940 USD (251 million VND).
Auto experts predict that this will also be one of the cheapest car models in the Vietnamese market. Although the official price has not been announced, according to some sources, this car model will also be priced at under 400 million VND, competing with Kia Morning, Hyundai i10 and Toyota Wigo.
In the small car segment, Toyota Vietnam also brought in the 7-seat Avanza model, 1.5L engine. Regarding the car price, there is currently no official price. However, it can be predicted based on the car price in the Indonesian market. In this market, there are 5 Toyota Avanza models, of which the 1.5G MT version (manual transmission) costs 220.1 million IDR (equivalent to 375 million VND); the 1.3G AT version (automatic) costs 218.5 million IDR (equivalent to 372 million VND).
If imported to Vietnam, the price will be about 1.2-1.3 times more expensive, according to the current conversion policy of the importer Toyota Vietnam applied to Toyota Fortuner models. If so, the 1.5G MT manual version will cost about 488 million VND, the 1.3GAT automatic version will cost about 483 million VND.
What cheap car models are available in the Vietnamese market?
Currently, the Vietnamese market does not have many cheap car models for users to choose from.
In recent years, in the car segment priced under 400 million VND, there are only 3 familiar names: Spark, Kia Morning and Hyundai Grand i10, of which Kia Morning and Hyundai Grand i10 are 2 models that have almost "no competitors" in this segment.
Because they are "rare" because they are "delicious, nutritious, and cheap", these have been and are the two car models chosen by many Vietnamese consumers, to satisfy their dream of owning a car.

Both of these car models have had quite 'huge' car sales in recent years.
According to the recent sales report of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), Kia Morning has continuously appeared in the top 10 best-selling car models every month. In the small car segment within VAMA, Kia Morning also has almost no competitors when Chevrolet Spark's sales are quite low. The cumulative sales of Kia Morning in the first 6 months of 2017 reached 5,643 units.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Grand i10 is also “no pushover”. According to data released by Hyundai Thanh Cong, in the first half of 2017, cumulative sales of Hyundai Grand i10 reached about 12,000 units, about 2,000 units/month.
Regarding the cumulative sales of both models in the last two years, 2015 and 2016, Kia Morning sold 8,374 (2015) and 14,874 (2016) units, while the corresponding figures for its "rival" Hyundai Grand i10 were 17,899 and 22,258 units.
This is truly a dream number for many car models currently on the Vietnamese market. It also shows that the demand for cheap cars of Vietnamese people is very high.
2018, Vietnamese users have plenty of choice for cheap cars
According to many experts, when many low-cost car models enter the market, Vietnamese consumers will have more choices.
Not only that, consumers also enjoy the benefits that come with competition such as car models with improved quality, more amenities, new technologies, etc.
Due to fiercer competition, the car model that is “better, more nutritious, and cheaper” will certainly be chosen by more consumers. In the sales race of car manufacturers, Vietnamese consumers will have the freedom to choose the car that best suits their budget.
