Tornado causes severe damage in mountainous districts of Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn) - The tornado and strong winds in Nghe An province on the evening of May 7 caused quite heavy damage. Currently, localities are mobilizing human resources and equipment to quickly overcome the natural disaster.

According to preliminary statistics, the rain and thunderstorms that occurred on the afternoon of May 7 in Que Phong district damaged and collapsed dozens of houses.

In particular, at the epicenter of the storm in Muong Noc commune, 36 houses had their roofs blown off, 2 houses collapsed completely, and 1 person was injured by a fallen wooden beam and is currently being treated at Que Phong District Medical Center.

The storm also caused 2.5 hectares of acacia trees to collapse. The total damage is estimated at about 855 million VND.

Immediately after the rain stopped, the Party Committee and the government of Muong Noc commune assigned forces and local people to visit, encourage and help the affected families.

According to the synthesis of the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Nghe An province, the battletornado and strong windsoccurred on the evening of May 7, 2023, injuring 2 people in Que Phong district; 165 houses of people were affected, of which 5 houses collapsed completely (Quy Chau district: 3 houses, Que Phong district: 2 houses); 160 houses were damaged and had their roofs blown off (Que Phong district: 39 houses; Quy Chau district: 100 houses; Quy Hop district: 3 houses; Ky Son district: 18 houses).

Regarding agricultural production, the tornado accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds caused over 168 hectares of rice and crops to fall. Of which, the rice area was damaged on about 158 ​​hectares; crops were damaged on 10.5 hectares, concentrated in Thanh Chuong, Que Phong, Dien Chau districts...

In addition, heavy rain and wind also caused 3 electric poles to fall (Quy Chau), 1 FM radio pole to fall (Quy Hop), 1 transformer station to burn (Quy Hop), and 3 schools to have their roofs blown off (Que Phong, Quy Chau).

Currently, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense has directed the People's Committees of districts to urgently mobilize forces in the area to help people promptly overcome the consequences caused by tornadoes and strong winds to soon stabilize their lives; at the same time, inspect, review the damage, and compile reports./.
