A warning to the arrogant and power-hungry

Lawbreakers have been sentenced to severe sentences, because no disciplined, civilized society can accept those who, in the name of freedom, give themselves the right to violate the freedom, peace and interests of the people and the country.

This time last year, while the Government, Central Ministries and authorities of the North Central provinces were making efforts to overcome the consequences of the marine environmental pollution incident caused by Formosa Company in order to help people in coastal villages in the Central region overcome difficulties, restore production and stabilize their lives, there were people who deliberately denied those efforts.

Taking advantage of the trust of some gullible people, they claim to be democrats and environmentalists, and entice many people to sue Formosa Company to promote their image, "make achievements" with reactionary organizations outside, and create an excuse to sabotage our country.

The funny thing is that the organizers and the hundreds of people they incited to protest against Formosa Company in Ha Tinh were not the ones who directly suffered damage caused by the marine environmental pollution incident. The leaders were Hoang Duc Binh, residing in Hung Trung commune, Hung Nguyen district, and Binh's accomplice Nguyen Nam Phong, residing in Son Hai commune, Quynh Luu district.

According to documents from the authorities, Hoang Duc Binh had participated in a number of organizations, associations, and opposition groups with political overtones, such as the "NoU Saigon" group and the "Vietnam Labor Movement". Binh had distributed leaflets in Ho Chi Minh City and was arrested for investigation of his act of enticing people to join the "Independent Union", and had been administratively punished for violating regulations on storing, distributing publications and printed products that are not publications. The subject did not pay the fine and fled to Nghe An. Binh regularly posted and shared on his personal Facebook information and propaganda documents that defamed the regime and promoted pluralism and multi-partyism.

After the environmental incident in the central sea, calling himself Vice President of the "Vietnamese Labor Movement", Hoang Duc Binh promoted and established the "Central Fishermen's Association" with the intention of creating a peripheral organization, gathering forces, attracting Catholics and fishermen from the central region to join the organization, finding a "nucleus" to incite protests and disrupt security.

A group of people took advantage of the pretext of a petition to cause disorder and insecurity on National Highway 1A on February 14, 2017.

On the morning of February 14, 2017, Hoang Duc Binh and Nguyen Nam Phong lured and incited about 300 people from Song Ngoc Parish, Quynh Luu District, to go to Ky Anh (Ha Tinh) under the name of suing Formosa Company. The group carried banners and slogans and traveled by many means of transport, traveling in rows of 3 and 4, not obeying the orders of the traffic police, causing traffic jams on National Highway 1A for kilometers, seriously affecting security, order and social safety.

Hoang Duc Binh also used his mobile phone to record and live-stream videos and comments that slandered the police force on his personal Facebook page; Binh also called on and incited Facebook users to follow, share, and make distorted comments, defame the regime, and lower the reputation of the police force. Hoang Duc Binh's actions have seriously affected the reputation, honor, and interests of the Nghe An Police in particular and the People's Police force in general, creating negative public opinion at home and abroad...

Hoang Duc Binh was prosecuted for two acts of “Resisting a person performing official duties” and “Abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and citizens”. Nguyen Nam Phong was prosecuted for “Resisting a person performing official duties”.

Illusions of fame, wanting to be heroes, expecting some kind of help from reactionary organizations outside to deliberately disrupt public order, cause social instability, seriously affect people's lives, no matter what purpose or motive they justify, in the end, the true faces of Hoang Duc Binh and Nguyen Nam Phong were exposed.

The 14-year prison sentence for Binh for the two crimes of “Resisting a person performing official duties” and “Abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and citizens”; and the 2-year prison sentence for Nguyen Nam Phong for the crime of “Resisting a person performing official duties” are appropriate.

It is a warning to those who are still arrogant, have illusions of power, illusions of freedom and democracy by inciting disorder, violating people's right to live peacefully.
