For a year now, the kitchen of Quynh Yen Kindergarten has not had to import vegetables and fruits from outside. Because the school campus is spacious and there is still a lot of vacant land, the teachers have taken advantage of the area of over 500m2 to grow clean vegetables, both providing for the children's meals and ensuring a green, clean and beautiful environment.

Currently, the school's vegetable garden grows a variety of vegetables such as Malabar spinach, mustard greens, water spinach, eggplant, tomatoes, papaya, etc. On average, the school garden provides over 10kg of vegetables and fruits per day to serve more than 400 children in the school. Thanks to that, on rainy days, teachers no longer have to worry about a shortage of green vegetables.

The movement of growing clean vegetables in kindergartens in Quynh Luu district is developing strongly. This not only helps kindergartens have more sources of clean green vegetables but also helps children experience the vibrant world of plants through outdoor activities, by directly taking care of the vegetable garden.

From a few schools building models, this movement has now spread to 32/32 kindergartens in the district.

In addition to schools with land on campus, schools without land have rented land or built supports and used tools such as foam boxes, tires, and plastic pipes to store soil to grow vegetables.

With this method, schools have grown a variety of vegetables and tubers, providing 80 - 100% of the school's green vegetable needs.

Ms. Vu Thi Hien - Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Quynh Luu district added: "The model of growing clean vegetables in kindergartens has been successful beyond expectations. This not only helps increase the amount of green vegetables in each meal for children but also contributes to ensuring food safety in the collective kitchens of schools".

By creating clean, safe vegetable gardens and strictly controlling food inputs in collective kitchens, kindergartens in Quynh Luu district have done a good job of ensuring food hygiene and safety, protecting children's health, and contributing to the successful completion of the proposed educational tasks.
