(Baonghean.vn) - Despite having a long criminal record and having just been released from prison, Lu Van Thon still re-offended and trafficked drugs. This time, Thon dragged Quyet, a minor, into the case.

On April 15, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of three defendants: Lu Van Thon (born 1987), Vi Van Chung (born 1991), and Vi Van Quyet (born 2005), all residing in Kim Son town, Que Phong district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking”.

Thon has a long criminal record for "Theft of property", "Escape from detention" and "Illegal drug trafficking". In May 2019, Thon completed his sentence.

In October 2020, while visiting Hanoi, Thon met two men he did not know in the Hoan Kiem Lake area. These two men ordered 1 kg of crystal meth and 50 packages of pink phien for 400 million VND. Thon agreed.

Then, Thon called the Mong man to order 50 packages of pink phien and 1 kg of crystal meth for 100 million VND.

On October 15, 2020, Thon called and instructed Chung and Quyet to get drugs and bring them to Hanoi.

At around 1:30 p.m., Chung and Quyet went to Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, to receive the drugs and then brought them home to hide. That same evening, Quyet took the drugs and took a bus to Hanoi. When the bus reached Truong Banh intersection, Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district, the police checked and arrested Quyet along with the evidence. Based on Quyet's statement, the police arrested Vi Van Chung and Lu Van Thon.

At the trial, the two defendants Chung and Quyet admitted to buying and selling drugs. Both said they acted under the direction of Thon.

Meanwhile, the ringleader Lu Van Thon only admitted to the act involving 1 kg of crystal meth, and the 50 packets of pink pills were “not related”.

The panel of judges determined that in this case, defendant Thon was identified as the ringleader and mastermind. The two defendants Chung and Quyet were active accomplices.

With many aggravating circumstances such as recidivism and enticing minors to commit crimes, the court sentenced Lu Van Thon to death.

Vi Van Chung, as an active accomplice, was sentenced to life in prison.

Vi Van Quyet was under 18 years old at the time of the crime, so he was given mitigating circumstances according to the law and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
