On the afternoon of March 30, the Asian Football Confederation held a draw to divide the groups for 16 teams participating in the 2023 AFC U17 Finals.
Accordingly, U17 Vietnam is in group C, along with Japan, India and Uzbekistan. This is considered a very strong group as Japan has won the championship 3 times; India has also won the U17 Asia title 2 times; Uzbekistan won the championship in 2012.
Neighboring team Thailand is the home team in this year's tournament and they only have to face opponents considered quite weak including Yemen, Malaysia and Laos.

The 2023 AFC U17 Championship will take place from June 15 to July 2, 2023, at four stadiums: Rajamangala, Pathum Thani, Thammasat and Chonburi. Teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine rankings in each group. The first and second-placed teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals. The four winners of the quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals and qualify for the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup, to be held in Peru next October.
This year, Vietnam U17 is led by coach Hoang Anh Tuan. The coach from Khanh Hoa has just made a good impression on Vietnamese audiences when he and Vietnam U20 played well at the 2023 U20 Asia.
